John Juanda adalah seorang pemain kartu poker profesional yang berasal dari Indonesia dengan kelahiran 8 Juli 1971. Dia merupakan pemain poker profesional asal Cina-Indonesia yang saat ini tinggal di Marina del Rey, California. John dikenal karena telah berhasil memenangkan lima gelang kejuaraan World Series of Poker yang pertama kali dia peroleh pada tahun 2002. Dia berhasil meraih kemenangan pada turnamen $1,500 Limit Ace to Five Triple Draw dengan memperoleh hadiah sebesar $50,000. John Juanda juga merupakan salah satu pendiri situs poker online terkenal Full Tilt Poker.
Biografi John Juanda
John Juanda lahir di Medan, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia dan dibesarkan di tanah kelahirannya. Pada tahun 1990, dia datang ke Amerika Serikat untuk melanjutkan pendidikannya di Universitas Negeri Oklahoma. Setelah lulus dari Universitas Negeri Oklahoma, John melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang S2 dan menerima gelar MBA dari Universitas Seattle. Selama masa perantauannya, John juga sering bekerja paruh waktu untuk membantu biaya sekolahnya. Salah satu pekerjaannya yang dia kerjakan adalah menjual Alkitab dari rumah ke rumah.
Ketika John sedang tidak bekerja dan tidak ada jam kuliah, dia pergi bermain ke kasino untuk mengasah kemampuannya dalam bermain poker. Sejak pertama bermain poker, John sudah langsung tertarik dan ingin lebih serius lagi mengejar karirnya di permainan poker sebagai pemain poker profesional. Pada tahun 1996, John menyelesaikan program MBA-nya dan mulai meniti karirnya di permainan poker dengan bermain di permainan yang nilai taruhan yang lebih tinggi lagi.
Prestasi dan pencapaian John Juanda
Tahun 2001 dan 2002, John Juanda menjadi Player of the Year karena berhasil meraih kemenangan di empat turnamen World Series of Poker. Tidak hanya sampai disitu saja,dia juga meraih satu gelar dari acara World Poker Open Championship. Pada November 2004, John Juanda meraih kemenangan pertamanya dalam acara Professional Poker Tour yang diadakan di Kasino Foxwoods di Connecticut.
Di tahun 2005, John meraih kemenangan pada acara Monte Carlo Millions dengan membawa pulang hadiah sebesar US$500.000. Pada acara tersebut,John menempati posisi ke-6 di turnamen Monte Carlo Millions Main event dan posisi ke-2 pada turnamen The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live from Monte Carlo. Pada tahun 2006, John Juanda berhasil meraih kemenangan pada turnamen Crown Australian Poker Championship dan berhasil mendapatkan hadiah sebesar $732.901. Dia meraih kemenangannya setelah mengalahkan Jeff Lisandro, Mike Sexton, Barry Greenstein, Tony Bloom, Tony G, dan Phil Ivey dalam merebutkan hadiah utama.
John Juanda kembali meraih kemenangan lagi pada tahun 2008 dalam turnamen World Series of Poker Europe £10.000 No Limit Holdem Main Event. Dia berhasil mendapatkan hadiah sebesar £868.800 pada turnamen ini. Pada tahun yang sama John berhasil memenangkan gelang kejuaraan WSOP Eropa pada turnamen WSOPE £10,000 Main Event. Dia berhasil meraih hadiah sebesar $1,580,096.
Pada tahun 2011, John meraih kemenangan pada turnamen $10,000 No-Limit Deuce To Seven Draw dengan memperoleh hadiah sebesar $367,170. Selain berhasil memenangkan 5 gelang kejuaraan WSOP, John juga sudah beberapa kali meraih prestasi pada acara World Poker Tour.
John hampir memenangkan acara WPT pada tahun 2002. Saat itu dia hanya dapat selesai pada posisi kedua dalam turnamen $10.000 Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Dari kemenangan tersebut, dia berhasil mendapatkan hadiah lebih dari $280.000.

Selain segudang prestasi yang telah diraihnya, John ternyata telah mendirikan sebuah restoran di California. Restoran miliknya itu diberi nama Java Spice yang didirikan pada tahun 2007. Restoran ini menyuguhkan beragam masakan dari Indonesia. Ternyata meskipun dirinya telah menjadi warga negara Amerika, dia tidak melupakan asal usulnya.
Tidak hanya jago bermain kartu poker, John Juanda ternyata memiliki rasa peduli terhadap sesama. John berencana untuk menyediakan perawatan medis gratis bagi yang membutuhkan setelah dia pensiun nanti.
